Half a billion years ago was when malaria’s existence of pre parasitic ancestor first appeared. Malaria has infected humans for over 500,000 years. Malaria originated from gorillas and chimpanzees. Malaria began infecting humans in 2700 B.C in China. It was the decline of the Roman Empire, and was known as the Roman Fever. The term Malaria originates from Medieval Italian “mala aria” meaning bad air. Once common in Europe and North America. 500,000 U.S troops were infected in the South Pacific during WWII, 60,000 soldiers died from it. Malaria became noticed in Greece by the 4th century BCE and was responsible for the decline of many of the city-state populations.
