300 million people are affected by Malaria each year, between 1 and 1.5 million die from it each year, mostly pregnant women and children younger than five years old. Malaria occurs in 109 countries and 45 of these are in Africa. 90 percent of all deaths caused by malaria occur in Africa. 3000 children die from malaria each day. In 2003 92 percent of Malaria cases and 94 percent of Malaria deaths were recorded in African territories. In 2005 the number of deaths reported in Uganda increased from 42,725 in 2004 to 77,000 in 2005. The number of cases reported also increased from 12,000,000 in 2004 to 16,000,000 in 2005.
